Alex Rosen

Alex Rosen is a Managing Director with IDG Ventures. He combines 18 years of venture capital experience with a deep understanding of technology and software, making him a valuable advisor to Consumer Internet and IT companies. He currently serves as board director or observer at Expect Labs (stealth mode, search-related startup), Krux Digital (audience data control software), Minted (design-driven e-commerce), and Smartling (translation management platform), and led IDG Ventures' investments in LivingSocial (through acquisition of SocialMedia), and Watchguard Technologies (unified threat management), Flowdock (collaboration software for teams), and Tinfoil Security (website security). Previously, he was a General Partner at Sprout Group, where he was head of the Internet and Software group.

Alex has been a board member, observer, or investor at MyNewPlace (acquired by RealPage), mySimon (acquired by CNET), Quintus (IPO, acquired by Avaya), Fogdog (IPO, acquired by GSI Commerce), Sapient Health Network (acquired by WebMD), SideStep (acquired by Kayak), and Rhythms (IPO, acquired by AT&T). Alex started his venture capital career as an associate with General Atlantic Partners, served as an advisor to Vector Capital, and developed software for Telcordia and AT&T Bell Labs early in his professional life. He holds BS degrees in electrical engineering and economics from MIT and an MBA from Stanford University.
